Mayor and Council Vacancy

Rockville’s Mayor and Council are accepting applications to fill a vacant seat on the city’s council.

Candidates are required by city code and charter to submit a narrative of their relevant experience and background, a statement of their priorities and vision for the city, and a financial disclosure statement. All application materials received by the city, with the exception of the financial disclosure statements, will be publicly posted to the city’s website.

Application Process

Review the Qualifications

To apply for the vacant council seat, you must be a current resident and have lived within Rockville city limits for at least one year, and be a registered voter.

Financial Disclosure Statement

Complete the Financial Disclosure Statement form and submit it with the application.

Apply for Vacancy

Submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m.
Submission are limited to 1,000 words, excluding the financial disclosure statement.

Open Session Interview

All qualifying applicants will be interviewed by the Mayor and Council during an open session. All interviews will be live streamed on Rockville 11 and available online following the interviews.

Interviews will be held in a group format. Each candidate can give a two-minute opening statement, followed by questions from the Mayor and Council, and concluding with a two-minute closing statement.

  • Initial interviews will be conducted on Saturday, March 2.
  • Follow up interviews will be Tuesday, March 5, if needed.
