Mayor and Council Seek Comments on 'Rockville’s Pike Neighborhood Plan'

Second Public Hearing is May 16; Public Record is Open Through May 23

Rockville, Maryland, May 10 – The Mayor and Council invite community members to comment during the second of two scheduled public hearings on the Planning Commission’s recommended “Rockville’s Pike Neighborhood Plan.” The hearing will be held as part of the Mayor and Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.

Read the plan at www.rockvillemd.gov/rockvillespike or in hard copy at City Hall and at the Rockville and Twinbrook libraries.

The public record for written comments will remain open through Monday, May 23. Written testimony may be sent to mayorandcouncil@rockvillemd.gov, or by mail to: City Clerk’s Office, Rockville City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave., Rockville, MD 20850.

The “Rockville’s Pike Neighborhood Plan” was approved by the Planning Commission on March 9. In accordance with Maryland law, the Mayor and Council have up to 150 days from the commission’s approval to review and act on the plan.

The recommended plan, which is being updated for the first time since 1989, establishes policies for land use, transportation, parks and other topics along a key 2-mile stretch of the Rockville Pike corridor, south of Rockville Town Center. The plan seeks to ensure that there is a mix of commercial and residential uses along the corridor, that existing residential neighborhoods are protected, that the emerging new neighborhood is attractive, and that Rockville Pike retains and attracts local and national retail to enhance the corridor’s economic viability.
