Climb Aboard the Big Trucks at the Public Works Week Equipment Show

Display to Celebrate the Theme of ‘Public Works Always There’

Rockville, Maryland, May 12 – Rockville will join the American Public Works Association to celebrate National Public Works Week from Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20.

The highlight of the week will be the annual Equipment Show from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 at the outdoor pool parking lot at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center, 355 Martins Lane. Kids—and kids at heart—will be able to climb into the operator’s seat of some of the big trucks used by the city’s Department of Public Works. In case of rain, the show will be canceled. There is no rain date.

The free show includes balloons, popcorn, coloring books and other giveaways, and the chance to meet some of the public works employees who provide the important services that keep Rockville running.

APWA first sponsored National Public Works Week in 1960. Today, more than 29,000 APWA members in the U.S. and Canada use the week to energize and educate the public about the important contributions of public works, including planning, building, managing and operating infrastructure and services in our communities.

This year’s Public Works Week theme is "Public Works Always There." The theme spotlights the pervasiveness of public works and how communities depend on public works and the public works professionals who are always there and always ready.

Rockville’s Department of Public Works provides water, wastewater, stormwater, recycling and refuse, transportation, fleet services, environmental and right-of-way management.
