Rockville Named 'Banner City' by Maryland Municipal League

Recognition Cites City's Engaged Membership

Rockville, Maryland, June 1 - Rockville has once again been named a "Banner City" by the Maryland Municipal League, which recognizes the municipality as one of the league's most engaged members.

Each of the 59 municipalities receiving the designation will be honored at this year's June 28 business meeting held at the MML's annual convention.
According to the MML, municipalities designated as banner city or towns:

  • Are recognized among their peers as an active participant in showcasing municipal government and how it works.
  • Work together as a municipality to help strengthen their membership league.
  • Foster goodwill by educating youth about municipal government.
  • Maximize their MML membership by taking part in league programs and activities.
  • Ensures the voice of their municipality is heard on issues relevant to the membership and in matters of legislative priorities.

This year's designated banner cities and towns are:

Berlin, Boonsboro, Bowie, Brentwood, Brunswick, Burkittsville, Cambridge, Capitol Heights, Chesapeake Beach, Chesapeake City, College Park, Colmar Manor, Cumberland, Denton,  Easton, Edmonston,  Emmitsburg, Federalsburg, Frederick, Friendsville, Fruitland, Gaithersburg, Galena, Glenarden, Greenbelt, Hagerstown, Hampstead, Havre de Grace, Hyattsville, Indian Head, Kensington, Landover Hills, La Plata, Laurel, Leonardtown, Manchester, Middletown, Mount Airy, Mount Rainier, New Carrollton, New Market, New Windsor, Oakland, Perryville, Princess Anne, Queenstown, Rockville, Salisbury, Seat Pleasant, Somerset, Sykesville, Takoma Park, Thurmont, Trappe, Union Bridge, University Park, Upper Marlboro, Westminster and Williamsport.
