Year in Review Looks Back at the City’s Engagement and Accolades

Rockville, Maryland, Sept. 1 – Learn about the accomplishments of each City of Rockville department over the past year and their plans for the future, in acting City Manager Craig L. Simoneau’s Fiscal Year 2016 annual report to the Mayor and Council and the Rockville community.

The report, which covers the fiscal year that ended June 30, includes a look at how each city department engaged with the community throughout the year. It also includes a recap of the Mayor and Council’s priority initiatives, which capture their long-term vision for the community.

“Every aspect of Rockville government, from its pothole repair to its boards, commissions and committees, to its largest annual events, like the Hometown Holidays Music Fest, draws its long-term vision from the eight critical success factors established by the Mayor and Council, and direction from the priority initiative that are the plan for accomplishing them,” Simoneau wrote in his letter introducing the report.

The city’s FY 2016 accomplishments included:

  • Ranking No. 1 on Livability.com’s “Best Cities for Families” list.
  • Drawing 500 community members to 30 listening session and 110 attendees to four citywide forums as part of the Rockville 2040 master plan update process.
  • Having Rockville’s AAA/Aaa bond rating reaffirmed by rating agencies and refinancing old debt, saving taxpayers $1.5 million in debt service payments.

“Rockville is a strong city, it is a diverse city and it is a city that is financially stable,” Simoneau wrote.

The report is presented as an eight-page insert in the September issue of “Rockville Reports,” which is mailed to all homes within the city limits.
