Rockville is a ‘Banner City’ Seven Times in a Row

Award Recognizes Most Engaged Members of Maryland Municipal League

Rockville, Maryland, July 10 — Rockville has once again been named a “Banner City” by the Maryland Municipal League (MML), which recognizes the municipalities’ elected and appointed officials as the league’s most engaged members. This is the seventh year in a row the city has earned the award.

The league represents and advocates at the county, state and federal levels on behalf of the state’s 157 towns and cities. According to the MML, municipalities designated as banner city or towns:

  • Are recognized among their peers as an active participant in showcasing municipal government and how it works.
  • Work together as a municipality to help strengthen their membership league.
  • Foster goodwill by educating youth about municipal government.
  • Maximize their MML membership by taking part in league programs and activities.
  • Ensure the voice of their municipality is heard on issues relevant to the membership and in matters of legislative priorities.

Fifty-nine of the state’s 124 municipalities received the designation in 2016. The towns and cities receiving the designation this year were honored at MML’s annual summer convention, held June 25-28 in Ocean City.
