Rockville Police Make Arrest in Armed Robbery and Burglary

Robbery Occurred in the Fallsgrove Neighborhood

Rockville, Maryland, Aug. 17 – A Gaithersburg man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred earlier this month near the Thomas Farm Community Center.

Officers from the Rockville City Police Department responded at approximately 4:30 p.m., Aug. 6, to a call for an armed robbery in the 700 block of Fallsgrove Boulevard. The victim said he was walking along the path near the Thomas Farm Community Center with his child. As he attempted to walk past two unknown male subjects near the footbridge, one subject pulled out a semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded his wallet and cell phone. The victim complied and the subjects fled towards the Fallsgrove Village Center. Police set up a perimeter in the area, but were unable to locate the subjects.

On Aug. 9, city police officers responded to the 700 block of Fallsgrove Boulevard for the report of three unknown subjects sleeping in a vacant apartment. The subjects fled the scene when apartment management staff entered. Officers recovered evidence associated with the Aug. 6 robbery that had been left by the subjects in the apartment.

On Aug. 10, members of the Rockville City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit were patrolling the Fallsgrove area when they observed suspicious activity in the 100 block of Jersey Lane. Three subjects were detained while officers searched the area and determined that a home in the 100 block of Jersey Lane had just been burglarized. Two other subjects were stopped a few blocks away on Darnestown Road and were identified and released.

Zackery Conrad Thompson, 19, of the 100 block of Brookes Avenue in Gaithersburg, was arrested and charged with one count of armed robbery and two counts of fourth-degree burglary. He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.

Charges are pending against two additional juvenile subjects involved in the robbery and trespassing.

Anyone with information about this subject or these incidents is asked to call the Rockville City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit at 240-314-8938.
