Internet Users Can Enjoy the Convenience of Streaming Video of Mayor and Council Meetings
ROCKVILLE, Md., July 1, 2008—Rockville has made available new technology that allows Internet users to view and listen to streaming video of Mayor and Council meetings. Users can choose to view either specific agenda items or an entire meeting, search and retrieve information on desired topics and view Rockville’s Channel 11 original programs and special features at any time. Links to Mayor and Council meeting agendas and background information on each item are easily accessible, and the technology also employs Podcast capabilities. Video-on-demand will be made available for viewing between 1-2 days after each meeting.
“We are excited about the prospect of using this video-on-demand technology which will enable citizens to view proceedings relating to their particular interests,” said Claire Funkhouser, Rockville City Clerk. “We believe this will enable our residents to feel more connected with our Mayor and Council in the decision-making process.”
This new capability represents a step forward for the City in its mission to fulfill the Mayor and Council’s Community Engagement vision to “increase resources for Web based and other technology based methods for information dissemination.” For information on meeting minutes and agendas, contact the City Clerk’s office at 240-314-8280.
