 What we collect on your regular GARBAGE COLLECTION day and how to prepare it: 
 

What We Collect

How to Prepare It

AshesIn a sealed bag; less than 50 pounds per bag; no warm ashes; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)
BambooBamboo Placed at the public right-of-way (curb), separated from regular refuse; cut into lengths no longer than 5 feet; stacked in 2-foot bundles; in easily emptied 32- gallon rigid containers OR tied in bundles no larger than 2 feet in diameter; less than 50 pounds
Broken glass, crockery

Wrapped and marked

Cat & dog feces, cat litter and diapers-all types

Dogs - pick up feces from outside and flush away. Cats - remove feces from litter and flush away. After feces is removed from cat litter and diapers, seal in a leak-proof container and place separately from refuse at the public right-of-way (curb)

Cinder blocks or bricks

No more than 5 at one time; placed at the public right- of-way (curb)

Concrete (broken)Placed in easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers; less than 50 pounds; no more than 2 containers

Dirt, rocks, sod

In easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers; less than 50 pounds; placed at the public right-of-way (curb); no more than 2 containers

Doors (wooden) (metal doors – see recycling section)

No larger than 5 feet in length; glass removed; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Eviction items Call 240-314-8568 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. for info.
Fencing components (split rail fence posts and rails) (metal fence - see recycling section)No more than one section of fence; components must be dismantled and be less than 5 feet long and 5 feet wide; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)
Firewood (decayed or rotten or wood pieces - 6 inches in diameter or less) Stacked, or in easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers; less than 50 pounds. Placed at the public right-of-way (curb)
Floor sweepings/vacuum cleaner bagsPlaced in a bag and put in the trash

Furniture, box springs mattresses, large plastic toys

Placed at the public right-of-way (curb)


Glass (plate glass)

Plates of glass should be no larger than 4 feet in length or in width; wrapped and marked OR in easily-emptied 32-gallon rigid containers; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Kitchen waste

Drained and wrapped and put in trash

Landscape ties (pressure treated)

Less than 5 feet in length; less than 50 pounds each; nails removed; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Lumber

Less than 5 feet in length; nails removed; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Needles, syringes, razor bladesWrapped and marked; placed in rigid non-penetrable containers.

Paint cans

(non-oil based paint)  Empty or solidified (i.e., with cat litter or dirt) non-oil based paint; no lids; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Pianos

Call 240-314-8568 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. to arrange collection

Repair debris

In easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers; less than 50 pounds; placed at the public right-of-way (curb) – no more than 2 containers

Rugs, carpet

In easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers OR tied in no more than 5 foot lengths; placed at the public right- of-way (curb)

Styrofoam/Plastic bubble packing

Placed in regular trash

Trash containers; wheel barrows; ladders and any questionable itemsLabeled for disposal; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

Tree fruit/pumpkins

In easily emptied 32-gallon rigid containers and weighing less than 50 pounds; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)


Windows (wooden)

 

No larger than 5 feet in length or width; glass removed; placed at the public right-of-way (curb)

What we DO NOT collect

The City does not collect items that are exceptionally large, heavy, or bulky. For these items, you must make arrangements with a contractor of your choice. Some of these items include:

  • Trees/Branches (branches larger than 6 inches in diameter – more than 5 feet in length), tree trunks, tree stumps, no more than 10 bundles
  • Construction or remodeling waste
  • Plate glass larger than 4 feet in length or 4 feet in width
  • Large automotive parts, such as engines, transmissions, door, fenders, hoods, fuel, etc.
  • Fencing (more than one section or sections that are larger than 5 feet long and 5 feet wide)
  • Recyclables (newspapers, books, magazine boxes, cans, bottles, etc.) will not be collected with regular refuse
