Permits & Inspections

IMPORTANT ADVISORY
While City Hall is closed during COVID-19, some permits and licenses will be issued virtually using our
virtual permit portal.

To find all available applications and required submittal documents for virtual permits, use the table below.

All documents must be compressed to a size under 25MB. For questions, contact 240-314-8240.

Both commercial and residential properties in the City of Rockville are required to obtain permits before starting construction projects related to electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural work and more. Work in or adjacent to the public right-of-way or impacting trees or stormwater facilities also requires permits. Most permits also require one or more inspections before work is considered complete and final. Construction in Rockville is regulated by the city’s Municipal Code and Charter and Maryland Fire Prevention Code, among other codes and regulations.
