Skate Park Construction Project
The Rockville Skate Park project is intended to provide the community with a much needed upgrade to the existing facility based on community input.
The new skatepark is expected to draw and engage local users to a concrete skate facility that will challenge beginners through experienced users.
Key elements of the project include:
- a new skatepark that includes street and park elements, obstacles, and terrain.
- modernized infrastructure and amenities
- on-site restroom facility
- storm water management facility
- reconfigured parking lot to maintain the same number of parking spaces in the Rockville Swim and Fitness center complex.
The new skate park is expected to open in early Summer 2021.
This Design/Build construction project was awarded to Spohn Ranch Skateparks.

Project Update
NEW ROCKVILLE SKATE PARK TO HOLD SOFT OPENING
Featuring concrete ramps and bowls, and rails, the new Rockville Skate Park will officially open for community use on Tuesday, June 8, in the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center outdoor pool parking lot, at 355 Martins Lane
Members of the community living near the skate park are invited to use the park as part of a special soft launch over Memorial Day Weekend, beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 29, 2021.
For Memorial Day Weekend, the schedule will be:
Saturday-Monday: 10:00 am-9:00 pm
To promote safety, all park users, of any age, must wear a protective helmet. While some loaner helmets will be available, visitors are encouraged to bring their own. Staff members will be on duty to enforce this policy during operating hours.
Rockville Skate Park
In addition to the concrete design, the new 15,000-square-feet skate park features an entrance building, lighting, landscaping, and parking, and access road improvements. The new venue replaces the old wood and steel park, which opened in 2001. The old park had deteriorated after close to two decades in operation and was demolished.
Spohn Ranch, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, designed and built the new park after the city gathered community input on the design.
Key elements of the new park include:
- street and park elements, obstacles, and terrain.
- modernized infrastructure and amenities
- on-site restroom facility
- storm water management facility
- reconfigured parking lot to maintain the same number of parking spaces in the Rockville Swim and Fitness center complex.

Conceptual Overview of Skate Park
The skate park will be in the eastern parking bay of the outdoor swimming pool parking lot. Additional parking will be added to the drive aisle and around the eastern edge of the skate park to maintain the number of parking spaces in the outdoor pool parking lot. The building and spectator area have been modified and switched locations from the renderings below.
