By identifying, monitoring and evaluating youth services, programs and activities offered in the City of Rockville and surrounding areas, the Youth Commission develops recommendations for the Mayor and Council about programs, policies and legislation to promote the health and well-being of young adults.
The commission works with partners in the public and private sectors who provide youth programs and activities to bring forth concerns of young adults and develop a communication network to provide young adults with information about available services, especially athletic, arts, recreational, educational and leadership opportunities. The commission also works to increase community engagement, volunteerism and awareness of the political process among youth.
The Youth Commission will consist of 11 members who are 16 to 21 years old and either live in, and/or attend high school or Montgomery College in, the City of Rockville.
Five members of the Youth Commission will be appointed for two-year terms, and six members will be appointed for one-year terms. The commission will meet a minimum of seven times per year. Meetings will be open to the public.
