Rockville vacuums leaves from neighborhood curbs twice a year, in early April and between October and December.
Tips for Leaf Collection:
Rake leaves by 6 a.m. on the first day of the collection period, but no earlier than one week before the collection dates to avoid grass damage or fire hazards.
Rake leaves next to, but out of, roadways, gutters and bike lanes, and away from parked vehicles. Avoid parking near leaf piles.
Remove all sticks, grass clippings and other large objects from leaf pile.
Do not use any plastic bags or dump any yard waste or leaves in storm drains.
After seasonal collection ends, continue to follow our general yard waste guidelines.
If city crews are unable to complete an area during the scheduled collection week, they will continue working on the unfinished portion on the following Saturday.
Sustainable Leaf Tips
Leave some leaves where they fall or rake into garden beds to serve as natural mulch and habitat for beneficial insects that overwinter in leaves such as butterflies, fireflies and native bees.
Mow over the leaves to break them up into tiny pieces that can filter into the grass, providing much-needed nutrients.
