Independence Day

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration is held annually at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm. This location offers wonderful spectator viewing, and ample and convenient parking for the 4th of July festivities. Enjoy live music by Vertigo Red and a 20-minute fireworks display.

Free parking is available in lots along Shady Grove, and Gaither Roads as well as on Piccard Drive. These lots are conveniently located near the event site. There is no parking available in the King Farm neighborhood.

Please use main roads such at Route 355, Gude Drive, and Shady Grove Road to access these parking lots. There will be ample signage directing people to public parking. View parking map.

Accessible parking is available in the parking lot on the corner of Shady Grove Road and Gaither Road. Please display your Accessible Parking Pass when entering the event site. 

General Information

  • Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event. The following food vendors will be onsite:
    • Mr. Softee
    • Armand’s Pizzeria and Grille
    • Holy Crepes 
  • Bring beach chairs or blankets to ensure comfortable seat­ing. Be considerate so that those around you can see the show too
  • No chairs or blankets allowed within 100 feet of the stage. 
  • Outside, prepared food is permitted 
  • Most events will take place rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, cancella­tions will be posted on this page and at

For the safety of all, please follow these guidelines: 

  • Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park is smoke and vape free  
  • No tents, barbecuing or open flames
  • No outside alcohol
  • No wheeled recreational devices
  • No noisemakers, glass containers, drones, laser pointers
  • No weapons, illegal substances, explosives
  • No throwing footballs, frisbees, baseballs or other projectiles

Park Closures 

There is limited access to parts of the park on Friday, July 1 – Tuesday, July 5.

  • Dog Park: Closes at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 1 until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
  • Fireworks Safety Zone (includes football fields, tennis courts, playground, and parking lots): Closes at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 3 until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
