Tree Canopy

Applications are currently being accepted for projects that will be completed in 2021. If you wish to submit an application for a project that will be completed in 2022, please check back in October.

The City of Rockville provides rebates to single family residences, homeowners associations, condominium associations and non-profits for planting native trees and other practices.

Eligible properties are offered a financial rebate of $150 per tree. To receive a rebate you must apply prior to planting your tree and retain and submit itemized receipts and/or final invoices for all project costs. The rebate amount cannot exceed documented costs. Properties are eligible to receive a lifetime total of $2,500 in rebates.

Trees must be planted within 6 months of approval and after September 15 and before May 30 to be eligible for a rebate.

Verify Residency

Not all Rockville addresses are qualified residents. Check to make sure you're a resident by using our address check map.

Review Tree Requirements

Review the Tree Canopy Application Instructions and Design Guidelines and check to verify the tree you'd like to plant is on the approved tree list. Projects must meet these criteria to be eligible for a rebate.

The City of Rockville restricts the types of trees you can plant to protect our natural ecosystem. Review the species restrictions.

Fill out Application

Complete the online application and attach photos of the planting sites. Wait for approval and sign the Property Owner Approval before beginning your project. 

Please allow two weeks (14 business days) for application processing.
