Rockville’s Mayor and Council Launch Search for Candidate to Fill Vacancy

Rockville, Maryland, Jan. 23 – Rockville’s Mayor and Council announced Tuesday evening that applications are now being accepted to fill a vacant seat on the city’s council.

Two dates have been scheduled for candidate interviews by the Mayor and Council: Saturday, March 2; and Tuesday, March 5. The interviews will be conducted in the Mayor and Council chambers at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave.

Candidates are required to submit a narrative of their relevant experience and background, a statement of their priorities and vision for the city, and a financial disclosure statement. All application materials received by the city, with the exception of the financial disclosure statements, will be publicly posted to the city’s website. Candidates are limited to no more than 1,000 words on the narrative of their relevant experience and background and statement of their priorities and vision for the city.

The vacancy was created following the election of Julie Palakovich Carr to the Maryland House of Delegates to represent District 17, which includes Rockville. Palakovich Carr resigned on Jan. 8. The candidate selected will serve the remainder of that term. The next Mayor and Council election for all five seats on the body will be held Nov. 5.
