Offer Your Input on Mayor and Council Compensation

Panel Recommends Stipend Level for Mayor and Council

Rockville, Maryland, Feb. 19 — Rockville’s Compensation Commission convenes every four years, before a city election, to recommend changes to the compensation for the city’s five elected officials for consideration by the Mayor and Council.

Before making a recommendation, the commission is soliciting input from city residents on various aspects of compensating the Mayor and Council, including how compensation levels are determined.

The commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Mayor and Council chambers at City Hall, 111 Maryland Ave. The commission has created a survey to receive input from city residents. Take the survey at

The commission is required by ordinance to make its recommendations to the Mayor and Council by March 31.

Currently, the mayor receives $32,582 in compensation and each councilmember, $26,376. Any adopted changes to the Mayor and Council's compensation would go into effect after the 2019 election, which takes place Nov. 5.

The Compensation Commission’s 2015 report, along with reports from past election years and further information about the commission’s work, is available at
