Rockville, Maryland, June 7 – The City of Rockville will host the Opioid Spoon Project Honor Tour from 4-6 p.m. today in Rockville Town Center Park, 131 Gibbs Street.
The tour will bring a specially created 800-pound opioid spoon sculpture to the park in Rockville Town Square and provide individuals the opportunity to sign the spoon in honor and memory of loved ones lost to the opioid epidemic.
The tour stop is co-hosted by Rockville’s Mayor and Council and the Montgomery County Council of PTAs Substance Use Prevention Committee.
Domenic Esposito, founder of the Opioid Spoon Project, has been on a multicity honor tour along the East Coast since May 11. Other stops have included Providence, Rhode Island; Boston; Portland, Maine; and Frederick, Maryland.

In March, the city launched its Rockville Goes Purple campaign against the opioid epidemic. Rockville’s Mayor and Council, city staff, and community partners are joining together to raise awareness that Rockville is not immune to the crisis of opioid overdoses
A year ago, this month, the Mayor and Council joined state and local jurisdictions in a lawsuit against drug manufacturers and distributors for their role in the crisis.
