The Rockville Farmers Market Offers Seasonal Specialties

Saturday Market Offers Seasonal Produce Through Nov. 23

Rockville, Md., Aug. 22 – The Rockville Farmers Market offers healthy food choices and a natural place for community gathering well into fall.

The market’s late summer offerings include corn, peaches, tomatoes, watermelon and other fruits and vegetables. The market also plants and flowers, herbs, baked goods, local wine and spirits, knife sharpening, meat, and coffee.

Now in its 29th year, the market features only regional growers and producers, with everything grown or produced by market vendors. It is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 23 in the jury parking lot at the corner of E. Jefferson (MD 28) and Monroe streets in Rockville Town Center.

The city’s YouTube channel includes interview segments with Leroy Tracey, owner of Mountain Valley Orchard in Smithsburg, one of the market’s featured farms, discussing what’s in season and the benefits of buying local produce. Visit www.youtube.com/cityofrockville and search “Farmers Market.”

The market participates in the Maryland Market Money Program. The program helps provide greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables for customers using the Farmers Market Nutrition Program; the Women, Infants, and Children Fruit and Vegetable Check Program; and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps). Participants’ benefits are matched up to $5 each week while funds are available. Organizations or individuals wishing to contribute to the Maryland Market Money program should email specialevents@rockvillemd.gov.

Visit www.rockvillemd.gov/farmers or call 240-314-8620 for more information, including a list of participating vendors and approximate harvest dates for select fruits and vegetables. For more updates, like the market’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RockvilleFarmersMarket.
